Eleuthera Update

Ok, so it's been a long time coming, but I am finally going to fill you in on our Eleuthera trip. It took a solid week for my body to recover, but it finally did and the work we did was so rewarding. Everyone keeps asking, "Did you have fun on your trip?". "Fun" is not exactly the word I would use to describe 7 days of HARD labor, but thanks to an incredible team, we were able to make each other laugh tears on quite a few occasions. Our team was made up of 11 people, all of who were ready to tackle any and every project that presented itself.

Here are the highlights of the trip:

* Work accomplished: 10,000 gallon cistern built from the ground up(complete with hand-mixed cement), unloaded the Fazetski's belongings and moved the in, painted the den/kitchen in the Fazetski's apartment and did a thorough cleaning, primed one house, painted the exterior and trim of another house, put up paneling on the walls and ceilings in two rooms and floors in another, installed a gutter system and two doors, "engineered" and installed a porch rail, repaired a broken moped for the interns at CMA, and repaired a broken jack hammer.

* Bugs- I managed to acquire at least 150 bug bites(chigger-like). Ed's legs were pretty torn up as well, along with one other team memeber. The joke was, you get out fo the shower to coat down in olive oil, bug spray, and sunscreen. Teh olive oil was supposed to keep the bugs from biting..didn't quite work.

* Free Time- WHAT'S THAT???? There were a few hours that we were able to sneak in some beach time and when we did...oh my! Amazing! Because the island is only 1 mile wide, you could be on the Atlantic or Caribbean in a matter of minutes.

*Planes- SCCCCAAARRRYYYY! The island hopper from Nassau to Eleuthera was tiny and in horrible condition. I did a lot of praying! The guys on the team filled the 20 minute ride by pointing out all of the lose bolts on the wings of the plane and taking note of how the pilot was paying NO attention to what he was doing; real encouraging group of guys!

We had a great time. Skype made being apart from the girls bearable. Raylie tried to crawl into the computer every time she saw us. The both blew lots of kisses, which we loved! THanks to wonderful family for taking care of the girls while we were gone and allowing us the opportunity to serve!

Hey Julie.... came across your blog through Jeremy and Kelly's. Wow... this brought back some memories for me of a horrible taxi ride when we were in Vietnam adopting Nicholas! Our taxi ride to the airport to come back home was scary also, to say the least. The traffic laws in Vietnam are much different than ours, so it took some getting used to during our trip anyway, but on top of that... I was surprised that I picked up on the smell of alcohol and John did not.... yes, a lot of praying! Anyway... have enjoyed reading some of your blog. Happy 2011!
